Difference between verified account and Official Business Account
There are two verification levels on WhatsApp Business API. The first is Meta Business Manager business verification: required for all API accounts, confirms your company is real. This does not give the green tick.
The second level is the Official Business Account (OBA) with the green tick visible next to the company name. OBA is reserved for significantly sized or high-public-recognition companies. Meta assigns it discretionally, mainly to well-known brands.
Requirements for business verification
For basic business verification, requirements are: a verified Meta Business Manager account with matching company data, an active company website showing the company name, an official company document, and consistency between legal name, website and linked social pages.
Requirements for Official Business Account (green tick)
For OBA with green tick, the company must have: high public recognition (press articles, Wikipedia, significant online presence), a verified Instagram or Facebook account, and significant brand search volume.
How to speed up the process
For basic verification, accelerate by preparing all documents before starting: updated company registration, website screenshot with legal name visible, links to official social pages.
Chat API assists clients in the Meta verification process as part of onboarding. Experience in the process reduces time and common errors that lead to additional document requests.
